With a population of approximately 98,000 people, the Cardiff South & Penarth constituency includes two very distinct areas, in two local authorities, Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.
The Cardiff part of the constituency comprises the traditional working-class areas of Butetown, Grangetown and Splott. These areas are host to a diverse range of ethnic communities.
The East Cardiff suburbs of Rumney, Llanrumney, Trowbridge and St Mellons in the largely residential areas.
The Vale of Glamorgan part of the constituency consists of the seaside town of Penarth and the communities of Lavernock, Sully and Llandough.
Vaughan Gething is the second person to represent Cardiff South and Penarth in the Welsh Parliament. The constituency is currently represented in Parliament by Stephen Doughty.
