Vaughan Gething AM, is backing Welsh Women’s Aid #16daysofactivism to end Violence Against Women and Girls. The 16 Days runs from the 25th November, “White Ribbon Day” to International Human Rights Day, the 10th December. The purpose is to reinforce that eliminating all forms of violence against women is a human rights issue and that the act of perpetrating violence against women is a human rights violation.
Violence against Women is by far the most common form of gender based violence and affects 1 in 4 women. This is highlighted most starkly by the tragic fact, that 2 women a week are killed by current or former partners in the UK.
Vaughan Gething AM said: “I am delighted to support the 16 days of activism and congratulate Welsh Women’s Aid for all the work they do to tackle domestic violence.”
“Sadly I am acutely aware that some of my constituents will be affected by domestic violence. If you are experiencing, or have experienced, domestic abuse or sexual violence, or are concerned about a friend or relative who may be experiencing domestic abuse or sexual violence – then call the All Wales Domestic Abuse & Sexual Violence Helpline on 0808 8010 800. It’s a confidential service that can be accessed for free 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
