I was delighted to hear that Cardiff’s school holiday enrichment programme, Food and Fun has picked up its seventh award at the renowned 2017 Catey Awards. Co-ordinated by Food Cardiff, in partnership with Cardiff and Vale UHB, Cardiff Council and Public Health Wales, the project was developed to address growing concerns that many families struggle throughout the school summer holidays. The Programme allows pupils to have access to a good, free, meal over the holidays, sporti…ng activities and see their classmates to help reduce the isolation and hunger experienced by families throughout the summer.
Last year, I had the pleasure of visiting Ninian Park, Meadowlane, Moorland and Baden Powell primaries to see the fantastic work and impact that the school enrichment programme is having on families in my constituency. At the beginning of the year the Labour Welsh Government announced £500,000 of funding for the programme. This year the programme will be running at the following schools in Cardiff South and Penarth:
Baden Powell Primary School
Moorland Primary School
Ninian Park Primary School
Meadowland Primary School
Bishop Childs Primary
Oakfield Primary
Greenway Primary
St John Lloyd Primary
Trowbridge Primary
Willowbrook Primary
Ysgol Pen y Pil
