Vaughan Gething visits Ysgol Y Deri

Cardiff South and Penarth Assembly Member Vaughan Gething today visited pupils and staff at Ysgol Y Deri following the schools recent inspection report. The Estyn report was good, with many ‘excellent’ features including leadership and the learning environment.

Vaughan was given a tour of the school, including the hydrotherapy and sensory splash pools. Vaughan was also shown around the DT room which displayed the work pupils were doing with woodwork.

Headteacher, Chris Britten said “It was a pleasure to show Vaughan around the school. Vaughan has seen the school develop from design through to fruition and has been an advocate for us throughout the journey. As always he takes a keen interest in our learners and how well they are doing. He had an opportunity to see the school in action and to meet pupils and staff. It was also useful to be able to discuss education and additional learning needs in Wales more generally.”

Vaughan said: “I was impressed and delighted to see that two years in the facilities are making a huge difference to the teaching and learning environment of pupils with additional learning needs. It was extremely inspiring to see the work that pupils are able to and can do. It was equally inspiring to see firsthand the skills and compassion of the various staff members that I met. I also hope to be able to help showcase the fantastic work of pupils at Ysgol Y Deri in the future.”
