Vaughan visits Penarth Fire Station

Cardiff South and Penarth Assembly Member, Vaughan Gething recently toured Penarth Fire Station. Vaughan met with local staff and the Chief Fire Officer Huw Jakeway where he heard about their various roles in promoting fire safety.

Following the visit, Mr Gething said: “I was delighted to meet with the Chief Fire Officer Huw Jakeway and staff at Penarth Fire Station. It is a common misperception that all fire-fighters do is put out fires. Apart from visiting people at home, fire officers also make regular visits to schools to educate children about the risks of fires and other dangers. Promoting fire safety in a range of community settings is a significant and successful part of their role. I’m especially interested in the developing partnership between the fire service, health and care services to help people with their general wellbeing as well as emergency care.

Our firefighters do a fantastic job in serving our communities and helping to make our lives safer”.
